Book Review: Protecting Indigenous Art: From T-shirts to the Flag
Protecting Indigenous Art: From T-shirts to the Flag is a fascinating and insightful book detailing the developments in the legal protection of Indigenous art under Australian laws with a focus on the adequacy of the copyright protection over the last 35 years. Colin Golvan is a leading King’s Counsel at the Victorian Bar renowned for his expertise in intellectual property law, including copyright. Not only does the book chronicle an important part of legal history, it also gives an insight into Colin’s contribution to the law generally and particularly the protection of Indigenous art. It is an accessible book to lawyers and nonlawyers alike and a very enjoyable read – it left me with greater knowledge and further respect for Indigenous culture and the works of Indigenous artists.
